Hospitality
A neighborhood café and bar concept designed to evolve throughout the day—inviting discovery, connection, and community.
Located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Che Mono was conceived as a hospitality environment rooted in community and everyday ritual.
Irwin Raymond, in collaboration with international studio partner MTVD, was engaged to design a space that captures the easy-going charm of its neighborhood while offering a layered, time-responsive guest experience. The objective was to create an environment that feels welcoming and relaxed during the day—yet intimate and atmospheric by evening.
The project required a careful balance between openness and mood, simplicity and depth.
The Challenge
The success of this project required translating the neighborhood’s effortless charm into a refined yet unpretentious environment.
Key challenges included:
Embodying the relaxed character of the surrounding area
Designing a space that transitions fluidly from morning to evening
Balancing openness with intimacy within a single footprint
Creating distinct experiential zones without visual fragmentation
Ensuring material selections support both durability and atmosphere
The environment needed to feel authentic—never forced.
Our Strategy
We approached the project through a time-based hospitality framework—designing the space to shift naturally with the flow of the day.
Our strategy focused on:
Establishing rich material textures to anchor the experience
Maximizing natural light on the café side to create openness and ease
Introducing adjustable lighting and layered finishes to support evening ambiance
Organizing the layout into two complementary zones—airy café and intimate bar
Curating furniture and detailing that encourage lingering and social connection
Every decision reinforced the idea of Che Mono as a place where guests feel welcomed and unhurried.
The Design Solution
The final environment blends natural wood, cool steel, and neutral tones to create a backdrop that evolves throughout the day.
On the café side, light-filled interiors and relaxed seating arrangements support morning gatherings and quiet conversation. As dusk approaches, the bar area shifts in tone—ambient lighting softens the atmosphere, and the material palette deepens, creating a cozy and intimate setting.
Subtle design gestures—textural layering, curated décor, and thoughtful lighting control—enhance the experience without overwhelming it. The space moves fluidly from bright and open to warm and atmospheric, maintaining cohesion across both identities.
The Result
A dual-function hospitality environment supporting daytime and evening revenue.
Che Mono delivers:
A strong sense of neighborhood identity and community connection
A flexible spatial model that adapts to shifting guest needs
An atmosphere that encourages repeat visits and extended dwell time
The project positions Che Mono as a local anchor—inviting guests to return throughout the day.
